BACKPACKERS GUIDE TO THE UNIVERSE

THE GUIDE - HTML VERSION

Fantasy Software's "Backpackers Guide To The Universe" was originally released as two programs, one on each side of the tape: the game itself and the guide. The guide contained useful information for playing the game, such as how to protect the creatures you would collect in your backpack. This archive contains a HTML version of the guide for easy consultation.

Please note that you'll still need the in-game instructions to fully get going with "Backpackers"; these can be found elsewhere on the 'Net. Try "World of Spectrum" at http://www.worldofspectrum.org, which is the definitive repository of all things Speccy.

DISCLAIMERS

1. Copyright for old games (and their documentation) is a contentious issue. Some authors have released their old work into the public domain, and allow free distribution of their works, and some (such as Ultimate & Codemasters) actively disallow it. I've no idea what the current situation is with Fantasy Software or Bob Hamilton, but I'm assuming that, as the game, the guide program, the instructions and the artwork are all freely available as downloads right now, there'll be no problem with my little contribution here. However, if the current copyright holders of "Backpackers" decide at some point in the future that they want to discourage such distribution, then I'm afraid you'll have to delete these files unless you own a copy of the original game.

2. I am not responsible for any of the content of the guide; I merely typed it up, pretty much word for word, with the odd spelling correction as I went along. So, if you want to criticise the grammar, or the fact that many sections blatantly rip-off Douglas Adams, then it ain't my fault, guv! Don't flame the messenger! ;o)
